Tanjiro's killed so many of the twelve Kizuki... Why wasn't he turned into a hashira before the end of the series?
To be a Hashira, you need to kill 50 demons or a member of the Twelve Kizuki as a Kinoe-ranked Demon Slayer. Obviously, Tanjiro killed Enmu and Gyutaro but he was still not Kinoe at those times so he never made it up. In fact, even after killing Enmu, he was still the 4th lowest.
Well unsure about Enmu, Genya said he didn’t become Hashira after defeating Gyutaro was because he relied on Tengen’s strength and help.
Either Genya forgot Tanjiro wasn't Kinoe or he was jealous that he fought a real Upper, but even if he did kill Gyutaro singlehandedly, that wouldn't take Tanjiro from Kanoe to Hashira instantly.
Eitherway there are moat likely exceptions. Considering Muichiro and Gyomei became Hashira in around two months after picking up a weapon. Not even after passing Final Selection but just picking up a weapon. And average time to become a Hashira is 5 years.
Well ignoring those two, Tanjiro went from Mizunoto to Kanoe just by doing 6 missions (Swamp Demon, Asakusa, Kyogai, Mt Natagumo, Enmu, and the tag team with Nezuko), so it's not like you have to kill 500 total demons to become Hashira.
Gyomei and Muichiro probably just speedran it.
Although I’m pretty sure Tanjiro went on more missions than the tag team with Nezuko as it said they went on multiple missions I believe I think but yeah.
But a lot of indicators just seem to say kill a Kizuki and be powerful enough. Although unsure if Genya is Kinoe or not he also seemed to focus on wanting to kill Hatengu so he could become Hashira. And he wanted to be a Tsugoku so idk if he was Kinoe either. But it wasn’t really clarified so hard to know.
I think he needs 50KO's
No demons- no hashira
He had help. And he needs to be a Kinoe.
Tanjiro didn't become a hashira not only because he wasn't the last rank, Kinoe, but he had help with defeating them. Every single demon of the 12 Kizuki Tanjiro has fought, he had help. He's going to have to defeat them himself, and he wouldn't stand a chance against any of them alone.
